4AGE is only 1.6 litre. With its EFI system, it will be easier on fuel than a turbo A14.

4AGE = 120 hp
A14-T = 100 to 160 hp

ca18det when fresh are amazing on fuel even with 12psi
All options will need engineering so might as well go
for the ca18det straight off or sleeve an A15 to 1775cc
but dont expect good economy unless you efi it.

I think the max bore on a A15 is 77mm....if you can bore a a15 to 1775 the can't you do the same withe a14 as the bores are the same??

Few people know, but there are a few! and one that shared this is Lemonhead. He has sleeved his A14/15 block to 82mm with room for 83mm for future rebuilds (his machinist saying 83mm is no problem and even full wet sleeving possible as the A series are beefie thickly cast iron nuggets). Lemonhead even went further fitting an E16 88mm crank into the a15 block to take it closer his build to 1859cc.

Using an A15 stock engine stock 82mm stroke & 133mm stock rods - Sleeve to 83mm with stock ca18det pistons 1775cc

You have to start with an 83mm bore head gasket so if anyone is interested in doing up the DXF file for me I will be very grateful with a spare gasket
either in copper or composite with stainless fire rings.

Then stock 83mm L Series or other sleeve as stepped and sized for the machine hole on the block usually 1.5 to 2mm at the base. 2 and 3 are offset machined but it doesnt matter with head chambers 2 and 3 as the bore is so large the valve position should be only 1 to 2mm difference to 1 and 4.

2023 Edit - this engine has changed owners a few times but is still around and would love to know the weight of the bottom end as
I weighed my A12 race engine with 80mm bores, honda flat top pistons/rods and customized knife edged A12 crank was just around 26kg
around 10kg lighter than stock A12 and much lighter than A14/A15 but it is all interesting to know the weights.

82mm bores using sleeves on 2 and 3 only and offsetting towards 1 and 4
offsetting to 2 and 3 more can make 83mm thats .5mm each side extra and
we will need a 40mm steel head plate made up also to torque the block
before honing that way a perfect finish can be achieved.
LemonHead did mention 85mm is the max possibility when he measured the
82mm block he has done so Id be happy with 83 or 83.5mm bores max that
would b nice then I find my old post stating this dude was going more!
"Lemonhead is aiming for 85mm bores and 88mm e16 crank so if you thought
1796cc is the business imagine 1997cc :))) Now thats L series size with
20kg less." and very compact dimensions to boot!!
