I've seen fibreglass bumper bars for sale too.
Aluminium wheel nuts.
Helium in the tyres.
I have a factory dash frame has had many holes drilled in it.
Did you mention fibreglass front guards?
Remove your number plate lights.
Drill out spotwelds on the spare wheel hold down anchor.
Remove jack mounting brackets.

D I am quite familiar with Miata motors, as we have a Miata and it came with a spare motor..As for the cleansing to save weight OGREinc (Stan) can attest to the fact that I'm not sporting any extra weight..............he can also attest to the beating I take on the longer straights, as he's been witness to the uphill battle (as long as he doesn't dime me out for the dive bomb, oops I mean somewhat aggressive moves necessitated by my crap wrenching)

As for the hubs cage redo..........I did say stupid weight saving ideas. Hmmm wonder how many grams that chrome window trim weighs?

Tom

I feel your pain in the 5 mph faster through the corners club. Although it has been a number of years since I ran the car I was always having to try to time my run through the corner to not run into the people ahead of me.

As long as we're talking about that, though, the unsprung weight savings of the hubs and the Wilwood brakes might help pick up another mile or so in the corners and help you down the straight.

Remember, although they are light, those window trims are up high. effecting your center of gravity.
which is why I didn't suggest removing material from the Xmember, as doing so raises your center of gravity.

This is a quote I read a few years ago on a forged wheel website. Whether it is true or not im unsure.

Every pound of unsprung weight savings has the effect of reducing overall vehicle weight by 20lb

Are you running a h165? Disk or drum rear end?
Alloy H165 diff carrier.
If you still have drums go to 240z style finned alloy drums.
Wilwood front calipers
What wheels are you running?

I know a guy who spent a whole weekend putting the holesaw through unstructural parts of his Datsun after a reshell to end up with a bucket weighing 1-2kg from memory.

Very interesting thread!

Dattoboynz I'm running a H190 with alloy center, it has the 240Z drums, I weighed the entire assembly and it's 94lbs.

I have 2 sets of wheels; one are Hotwire copies 13lbs per and the other set are Shelby Supercars that weigh 12.5lbs

On the stupid front more than once I have toyed with the idea of aluminum panels; lighter than fiberglass but not as light as carbon fiber. Doing the trunk, hood, valance and door skins could take off as much as 45lbs......wouldnt be more than 100hrs of labor.

The 240Z finned alloy drums weigh more than the stock 1200 iron drums (12.5 vs 8 lbs)

Race fiberglass is very light but also very flimsy, not recommended for street use, the street fiberglass versions weight sometimes more than steel
