Is it possible to put an extra engine in the boot to power the back axle while keeping the engine under the bonnet powering the front???

Anything is possible with enough money and time thrown at it, however in my opinion this excercise would be a waste of time. You may aswell just go and buy an AWD car.

any thing and everything is posible.... the only thing is to get the front and back ratio's EXACTLY the same on exelaration and deceleration, meaning they must have EXACT same power and torque out puts at the wheels..... and they both must operate in unison.. if not 1 end of the car will be slowing it down, that is the hard part.. if u takle that.. ill send ya a... an email

Waste of time? Mate, you get double the horsepower. Admittedly, swapping a larger engine in a 1200 makes more sense, but check out cars that have actually been built this way. The Hurst Olds would smoke all four tires down the 1/4 mile ... with the air conditioning on!

You would think so, no? But actually they don't have to be evenly matched.

Is an awd Sunny GTiR better than an awd Datsun 1200? Hard to say, since no one has driven the latter.

I'v worked out how to put an A15 in the passenger seat area of a 1200 with a shortened tailsharft driving the back wheels. The normal engine would be in the front still driving the backwheels as well. The tricky part is in the diff it would have to be locked and would entail alot of cutting and joining with two diffs side by side. The biggest problem I can see would be if it breaks an axle, being so short the wheel could easily fall of and it could get a little dangerous. You could hang the second motor of the roll cage seeing as its a race car anyway. The extra weight would't be a problem as it's in the middle of the car where the passenger sits. The only reason I havent gone ahead with it is the problem with the short axle and the wheel coming of.
Twin cam 8 cylinder dato 1200.

street machine of the year, back in.. umm.... 1988?????
Holden HJ (or similar) ute with 2 v8's
one up front, and one in the tray..
front one was a mild one, one in the back was supercharged. and it was rego'd.
I think in this case they both powered the back wheels. (a 4wd transfer case in reverse???)
would be an interesting project tho!!!

why not have 4 engines????? each powering a wheel. Instead of steering the car with a wheel, u could alter power outputs at the engines to get the car to turn!!!!

Of course the stock Olds Toronado was front drive, so they just stuck another complete engine & power train in the back, & locked the wheels in the straight ahead position. The Hurst Hairy Oldsmobile was surely a sight to behold.

With the Datsun, i sort of visualised a stock type Engine & driveline with a small 4wd front axle & leaf springs. The Datsun engine & trans would be mounted backwards with a driveshaft up to the front diff. Creating a gear linkage that allowed you to shift two boxes at the same time would show some creativity

4WD transfer case sounds good, I never thought of that, Who knows something about them, I think a suzuki one might be ok I think they have a separate input and output sharft universals. It could be put in the middle of the tailsharft, I think we could be onto something here. What does everyone think.
