hi guys, ive just bought some 16 x 6.5 inch rims, and i know that they have been fitted to 1200 utes before, but i was wondering if some of the guys that have used these size wheels before could help me out with how to fit them. at the moment i have stock struts, but the wheels arent going on untill i put some stanza struts in the front of it. now will the wheels go on the stanza struts without a hitch, or will i need to fit spacers. is there any other problems that i will encounter along the way. thanks for the help guys. mitchell

How well these wheels fit will depend to a large degree on the wheel offset, & the tyre size that you use. Just saying that you have 16 x 6-1/2" wheels is only half the story.

That's right Dodgeman...
Attention 1200 owners, if you are buying any non-standard wheels, measure them up first. All because they are 4x114.3, that doesn't mean that they fit. Anything wider than 5.5inch width will 80% likely need massaging of the guards.
1200s are not the best at fitting aftermarket wheels, as compared to more common cars built after the late ninties.
16x6.5 will not easily fit on the front..even with 35 series tyres. Crazy...says I.

Chris Thanks for the backup & i agree with your comment. . I have harped on this many times before. If you stick with an outside tyre diameter of something pretty close to about 550 to 555mm, & a width of about 185, then you will not have problems. These are fine on a 5-1/2" rim, but believe it or not, you will have even less drama with a 5" wheel. The 185x60x13" tyre is a very good reference point & is an ideal dimention for the front of 1200's & 1000's, but if you go for larger diameter rims, then you will need lower profile tyres.
If you start going to larger diameter, or wider tyres, then things start to rub or hit as many have discovered, the expensive way. If you cant make a U turn in a two lane street, then you have the wrong wheels /tyres.
Oh yeah, all of the above is intended to apply to the FRONT wheels /tyres. Rears can be larger in most instances. Chris [another one]

I'm pretty sure this rule applies to " same size tyres per axle " . So running different size up front compared to the back wont be a problem.

with my 15x6 wheels. I had to massage the front of the guard out, whilst using the stanza struts. Also had to use spacers on the back. will probably need longer studs as well. dunno about the 16's though might require more things to be done.

Agree with the comments made by both of the Chris's. 185/60 x 13's on the front work good and just fit under the guards without the need for flaring. 205/55 x 13 on the rears produce the same result.

What is involved in putting longer studs onto the back hubs? and what is involved in putting longer studs on B310 sunny struts? If i was going to get a mechanic engineer shop to do it how much would i be looking at?
