I own one cause I like them.
And on average not many ####wits drive 1200's or 1000's.

I find I get the opposite reaction, more along the lines of,"hey cool car man" or "Yeah go the Datto" or "I used to have one of them ,they are great" etc. etc.

because they look good and are cheap to fill up. and there are more parts around for datsuns than for corollas(my second choice of car)

oh and some people say "wo watch out, toms got a datsun"

I drive a datsun because it was the first car i bought off some family friends and hasn't given me any trouble so i decided that there is no point getting another car when this one works just fine. As well as being reliable they are cheap on fuel and like other people have already said have a bit of style about them. These days it seems as though if you drive a datsun its because you want to which makes it a bit different than everyone owning a falcon or commodore.

when i first saw one and i was 18 looking at cars, it was the boxy lines of the 1600 that got me! then onto the net to find that you could slot in a late model powerplant and i was in love... then came the ugly duckling 1200 wagon and the rest is history. they're easy to upgrade due to nissan/datsun interchangeability and really, who doesn't love the old datto?

on a side note ... i'm still running my CA in, taking it easy with revs and haven't touched the boost yet (6 psi) but today i totally destroyed some yob in a BA XR8 ute with two big tailpipes and a bit of a rumble to it . he certainly didn't want another run at the next lights!
