Sorry i didn't catch up with you too, but read my thread on FREE CD's & there will be one for you.

Tyrie
I saw your pickup on Sunday, but missed you, yet we were in the same area. Bummer. Perhaps i can add a few details about your photo's.

The KB210 /120Y coupe was awsome. Its acceleration down the straight left nobody in any doubt about its ability, but watching it accelerate up the hill on the far side of the circuit gave a better perspective on its performance. Unbelieveable.

The 120Y sedan is in fact V8 powered & there are pictures of the engine on my CD. The owner & his wife were real nice people too. A bit like the car, unobtrusive, not "in your face" Just quiet, helpfull, & justly proud of a bloody good effort.

The barge? Ha-..ha-...ha. That barge has provided me with reliable, economic transport for many years & while 200B wagons will never be a cult car, they are really good for carying, or towing a lot of Datsun & Dodge parts home. Thanks for making it internationally famous.

Lagwagons wagon was ready to race after a few adjustment were made on Saturday night to get it through scruteneering. I believed this effort involved up to 20 people over a four hour period. It just goes to show what fellow Datsun people will do to help out another. I'm proud of each & every one.

As for the others, i don't know much, but it was a really good weekend & i was really pleased to see the Datsun1200,com members seeking each other out. Without this website, we would have been just faces in the crowd, but together,.. we were a team.

I gotta thank Dattoman55 & Dattodude [Mark & Chris] for their company on Sunday. These are two people that i had never seen before the weekend, yet they treated me & my son as old mates, & it's this type of friendship that made the weekend so special.

Oh yeah, it looks like Marks [Dattoman55] Sunny racer, a fresh car still being sorted, was just pipped for second place overall on raceday by the dazzling performance of the 120Y coupe. Congratulations are due to him for a stirling performance in this steadily improving car. His bubbling enthusiasm was infectious & his car & attitude could be an inspiration for us all.

A heartfelt thanks to you all.

Godzilla,

From what I am told...she has a little puff of smoke on over run.... not unusual, and nothing to worry about at this stage.

Dodgeman,

Thanks for the kind words.........there's plenty of improving left in the new girl yet, and we set our best lap time on Sunday..(1:12.58), so I was happy with that....the biggest suprise was yet to come..........

At the awards dinner, I was presented the award for motorsport champion - Runner up, for the days combined events (Hill climb, Regularity & Supersprint)...it was a huge shock, and I am over the moon with the waythe car is going - but there's heaps of improvements still to come...watch this space ;)

To all those I met on the weekend....thanks for coming and saying hi, it was great to meet up and chat for a while.

well, Datnats '05... what an experience!!! As many people have said previously it was really good to put names to so many faces. The "Datsun Love" was in abundance (accept from some of those cranky old z car snobs ) i managed to catch up with/meet so many of the dat1200 website fame. the show on saturday was awesome and the racing on sunday was just as cool. i'm glad i made the effort.

now for my personal saga...
after just getting the car ready enough to drive up to golburn, i had a fairly rough and very rich running car but knew (hoped) it would make it fine! seats folded down and loaded up to the brim we set off with the NDSOC melbourne cruise.

We finall made it around seven hours later, with the LAGWAGS having some computer issues, causing the timing to revert back to a power robbing 5deg! I knew that i would be able to pick a few brains the next day at the show and shine. and this was what i did, meeting and seeing the cars that had put so much effort into getting there i tried to work out my running issues, but to no avail. then i thought i'd give the old pre-scrutineering check a go. basically with about fifteen minutes of arguing with crusty pants head scrutineer (boy did i luck out there!) he had me with a quite large list of things to do which would even get him to consider me racing the next day. quite a task with very limited tools and only a supercheap auto that would be open for another few hours.

this is where the datsun love blossomed! loaded up with hopefull fixes from supercrap auto, me and my camping buddies went to work. then a few of the OZdat crew came to lend a hand, then a few of the queensland entrants came down and before you knew it there were thirty odd datlovers working on the wags! people were under it, in it, in the engine bay, or just there to lend there support it was classic! six hours later, she was ready for that crusty pants "head scrutineer" to view. we could do no more.

rolled up for scrutieering the next day, and luckily crusty pants was too busy to look at my car, i thought i was through! oh, mate... its a bit rough, i don't know... the guy says! obviously i need either a Z or a bajillion dollar paint job! ok pal, you tell me whats wrong. ummm the carpet could scrunch up under your pedals and affect them... i'll take it out. ummm i can see the vacuum line that goes to your boost guage... ok, i'll tape it up. so after doing this and going though the bay again i finally got someone who knew that we were all there for fun, as long as my car was safe. he did a basic safety check and i was on my way. this was truly a win for the people

positive camber, average brakes and street tyres made for a very slippery experience but the long sweeping corners and straights gave me the opportunity to stretch the wags's legs, albeit a little sideways

really it was great fun, i chatted with heaps of 1200.commers and made a bunch of new mates that i'm sure i'll see at the next nats. and i got to give my car a bit of hell around the track. possibly the ugliest looking car there, and with a big white LAGWAGON sticker made by four drunk guys at 1am the night before accross the back screen, i'm sure most will remember the legend of Lagwagon. so many awesome cars and guys, i'm proud to be a datto owner!

Congrats Lagwagon on making such a huge effort to get the car ready......that's what motorsport is all about.

Here's one of my favourite pics.....those who were atthe track will know why ;) ( The guy in the Z32 behind me was not too impressed with my overtaking move and complained to the officials - they told him I did nothing wrong as we had passed the timing markers ...LMAO)

This wasn't the only Z car to be passed in fine style either. Like i wrote in another thread, some of the big noises were just that,... noise. It was all a joy to watch.

It's important to remember that while this Sunny is turbo FJ20 powered, that turbo is sucking through a restrictor slightly smaller than the size of just one carb on my 1200GX engine. The twin turbo six cylinder Z cars were unrestricted.
There's more to going fast than just having a fast car.

as for my visit to the datnats ..... it was FANTASTIC !!!! all be it that i only went to the concourse.
Like's been said earlier it was great to meet the 1200.com guys that i did
flyby, your 12's fantastic; chris, your sedan is unbelievably impressive, even better in real life phunkdoc, you didn't miss out on much with that snag sanga and thanks again for the badge; 4nik8, good to see you made it; dodgeman & sons, i can now put a face to all the knowledge typed here; and lagwagon ...... what can really be said ???? camping next to you & your crew made saturday night an extremely entertaining evening fantastic that you got it on the track after aaallll the work put in by AAALLLL the datto fans to get it through scruitineering. And i'm sure getting it home in one peice was just one more bonus.

it was also good chatting with some of the other owners of the 1200s big brothers - impressive 240z's, pretty 16's, and classic old fairlady's.
In all i had a fantastic time and already looking forward to the next meeting

cheers and congrats to all

i can definately say without a doubt that what made this datnats so good for me was meeting and hanging out with so many good blokes! the cars were good, but thats not the stories that will be told fr years to come. its the experiences that will last. its i bit lovey dovey really. boofhead, thanks for the coathanger

got a few more pics dodgeman??? just a few of the 1200.commers cars will do

oh, yeah. as dodgeman says re: datman55... its definately not all about how fast your car is in a straight line. i had so much trouble around corners with my underdeveloped setup and road tyres, there were a few low budget 1600's with good camber and castor and a set of r spec tyres that pipped me round the track. handling is very very very important!

Hey thanks for the good comments.

The car wasn't quite finished, even though I managed a blue slip, engineers certificate and paid for a green slip online (Which isn't good enough for an unregistered car).

Due to not having a "hardcopy greenslip", I wasn't able to register the car on the thursday. So I trailered it down.

I got a lot of good feedback, including a serious offer of $22k for it (I turned it down).

At the awards, I won the "Best Engineered -Runner Up". Which makes me pretty happy.

I'll win some track awards next time.

I too like the "on the road" photo, I think my brother might have taken it.

It was good shooting the breeze with Dodgeman and the many other guys from here, ozdat and of course datnet.

I'll upload my pics to my website over the next couple of days.

I checked out my "strange noise" from the front of my engine... both of my timing bearings are stuffed. One is knotchy beyond belief and the other is running dry. I'll get new ones through the week.

ps... it's a good thing I didn't do the track day at the datnats. When I got home his morning I found that an important nut on the steering linkages was "missing". I could have done some serious damage at speed with this oversight. So the morale of the story is...check and double check everything before racing or driving on the street.
