First id like to thank the people from this forum who have brought parts off me in good faith that the product will work .
It has helped me alot .Much thanks to 1200 rally car for parts and patience with his 1200 coupe .
so far we are doing a govt funded course called the neis program .me and my girlfriend are both doing it. datto chick goes to school 2 days a week for cert4 in small buisness management and has past all her exams which is good as this is run by neiss too...and you must pass to continue....
As for me im doing the fibreglass thing as usual .
Now heres the good part we will be moving into a factory on december the 19 th....
We will be running a genuine buisness as neis program has alot of rules to pass..
WE now have a buisness name
MOULDED FIBREGLASS INTERIORS

We also have an ABN
FIRE AND THEFT INSURANCE AT THE FACTORY
PERMISSON FROM THE COUNCIL AND LEASE AGENT TO WORK WITH FIBREGLASS IN THAT AREA........
PUBLIC LIABILITY TO 10 MILLION
SO ive kept this under the table for a while and now its all a happening thing i thoght id let the cat out the bag

Ever given any thought to doing carbon fibre GX hoods?

I been to the edge of earh to find a gx bonnet and have had no luck .Just one gx bonnet to make a mould off would be good .It would send the buisness into overtime withe the amount of enquires ive had on the Gx bonnet .....
I will keep looking though ..........

Heres an idea. You get a datto and make everything fibre glass and strap a massive engine or a worked on into it ans say its for "publicity". or atleast u tell everyone that.




Should definately think about bonnets

Congrats on the business I know how hard it is to set up your own small business. If it wasn't for my being in Auckland NZ and my car being at the painters I would happily let you take a mold of my 1200gx bonnet. If you are over this way and can do it with out damaging the paint, look me up.

MY accounten and I are in the prosess of seting up expence accounts such as servicing ,resarch and development taking it to car shows such as powercruise .they will all be tax deductions aslong as the money comes out of the company account as proof it was a buisness/advertising promotion as such..................
QUINN ,Id love to get hold of your Bonnet ,but the truth is yes once the bonnet is used to make a mould it can be rendered useless and you would have to settle with a fibreglass bonnet .....
Just some words of advice for those wanting GX bonnets
Fibre glass bonnets are not so legal let me explain .....>CARBON fibre bonnets are a no no on the street the material is bullet proof
to some extent ,it wont bend like steel ,it more likely to snap in half come thrugh the window and cut ya head off .....
ITs also expensive A 100 metre roll of good quality black n gold carbon fibre is 3000 aus dollars not including labour and resins to lay up a bonnet .(no you cant buy it by the metre cause it get runs like panty hose and then it stuffed)
LEGALLY i can sell a carbon fibre bonnet with a clause that the bonnet will only be used for show .ALSO for racing purposes if carbon fibre panels are allowed by the racing body you are with......you will have to sign a form that you understand the use of the product ........
With the basic glass GX bonnets there will be a similar clause and are far less dangerous
due to differnt materials used
A friend of mine owns adrenalin auto styling on the coast and sells 50 odd carbon fibre bonnets ayear most are used for show genuinlly ,and some just drive around withem till they get a unroadworthy ,bad luck hay.......
But we all know carbon fibre bonett on a soarer with abody kit bound to atract the boys in blue..........
but a glass gx bonnet painted nicely on your datto wont realy be noticed unless you tell some one ....So its basically buyer beware of what your getting into and KNOW the law......SO THINK BEFORE YOU BUY

That's a good piont there, I never thought about the results of breakage and such. So how is it that the donor part getting molded is rooted when your done, would you like to give me a rundown on some of the process?

it shouldn't be! you use wax or pva to prevent the fibreglass mould from adhering to the plug. Really shouldn't be a problem. Worst that could happen if you don't prep the surface properly is a bit of gelcoat stuck to the plug. But obviously the mould you were making is stuffed then too. I can't see how you could get a useable mould and bugger up the plug

I think you will read " It can be rendered useless " Basically no guarantees.
Without much knowledge in fibreglass I would be guessing like everything that uses a catalyst, during catalysis, heat is produced and this could warp the panel and render it and the mould useless.

OK I will explain to make a decent mould the bonnet will be paint striped and refilled to remove all old material then filled and shaped. flanges must be secured to the edge of the bonnet lip they will be hot glued to the panel then siliconed on and bogged an faired in (THIS IS KNOWN AS A RELEASE FLANGE) the next step is to give 4 coats of spraybog and sand that up so it can be painted with a product called DURATECH. you can sand it like bog with a coarse paper then go down in grades to a 2000 grit and it buffs up like 2 pac .
THIS product is made for plug making and works in combination with the waxes and tooling gelcoats.
DID YOU KNOW
TAking moulds off a 2 pac surfaces will create under curing in your tooling gellcoat
thus making the mould weak............
So as for the bonnet once ive finished with it the only way to remove all the flages and bog would be to spend sometime on the grinder and take the rest of it 4 a acid
bath to restore it to a usable condition .
AS FAR AS STUFFED MOULDS GO no i havent got a mould made for a GX THUS ICANT STUFF IT UP RIGHT ...

DONt forget the X and y factor with ya spirit level one little twist in ya bonnet a every one you make will be the same ...
