Morning all,

I just registered here because there are so few sites devoted to older Datsuns, I'm glad you're here. Obviously by my screen name I have a Porsche 914, I use it mostly for Autocross. I also have a 1966 Datsun 1600 roadster, Love it!! I just bought a 1971 Datsun 1200 with no engine, but I have an extra engine from the 1600. Will the 1600 bolt up to the 1200 motor mounts etc.? I am building this car for an event in October hosted by a car magazine called Grassroots Motorsports.

You build, buy or bring a car to compete in Autocross (solo 2), 1/4 mile drags and concourse. This year you are limited to spending $2006, show all receipts. Interesting Challenge.

Thanks for the help and again I'g glad you're out there.

Dan

If you could get an Sunny Excellent PB110 crossmember you could fit it where the japanese put an L14. I expect you won't have access to one of those.

So have a look at the technical articles where our members have contributed to the L18 into a B110.

Good Luck with your project.

The roadster motor won't fit on the motor mounts. What you can do is slap in an A14 out of a B210. Or an A15 out of a 210 (B210 and 210 are quite differant cars in USA). Either one of those can be built up pretty cheaply and you just need some modified motor mounts.
Anyway I've run a 1200 at SCCA autocorss and club racing since 1989 although it doesn't see much autocross these days , very fun car and they happen to now be legal for vintage road racing.

I've read about the GM challenge and wondered how a 1200 would do and reckoned it would need a motor swap of some sort. I'd recommend an L18 since they're cheap and not too heavy. A guy put a Ka24 in his 1200, and it was impossible on the xcross. Let us know how it goes!

[img] tags need to be lowercase eg [img].
Does that $2004 include purchase of car?
For $2004US in australia, rusted out splitty's would sell like hotcakes.
The event sounds like real fun.

$2004 is for everything. I bought a Chevy Monte Carlo for $200 & took the body off, moved the engine to just ahead of the diff and lowered the Bus body on. Whatever hung off the bottom got cut off. Look at the door handles, it wasn't very tall....
