Dear Motorsport Enthusiast,

As you know, our sport has been under attack from short sighted local Councils for years. Recently they've closed Lakeside Raceway and Darlington Park to racing and literally kicked our sport out into the streets.

Then, they hypocritically complain about the mysterious increase in 'hooning' on public streets and refuse to take any responsibility for the rising road toll. With the exception of the over-booked facilities at Ipswich, there are no dedicated circuits or drag-strips available for regular motorsport on either the south or northside of Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast.

There are less facilities in Queensland now than there were 30 years ago. This situation is irresponsible considering a motoring population the size of south east Queensland.

Meanwhile, motoring legislation has become more restrictive and revenue raising efforts increasingly efficient. The lack of safe, professionally operated motorsport facilities in our state is not because the finances can't be found. Local councils control whether a property can be zoned for motorsport use and none of them are giving permission. They're all devoted followers of the NIMBY (Not-in-my-backyard) decision making system.

We are asking for separate space, away from residential communities, where we can be left to enjoy our sport in a safe and responsible manner. We don't want the politicians to pay for facilities, however, we do want them to stop blocking our efforts to do the right thing.

The opportunity to voice your concern has finally been organised, but we need your participation to get the message across. Tell the politicians what you think about the current situation and what should be done to change it.

Hi Ian,

what's it been now - 5 years?

the councils EOI closes end of the month, has LMRE put in a submission, or know of a submission from any motorsport club, or had talks with other organisations putting in submissions for mgmt of the facility with regard to sub-leasing for sprint events?

Harry

btw, did you ever get that Skyline Club off the ground? or still want to?

Yeah, it's full blown B.S.
Up in Auckland the dumbasses who bought houses near the speedway bitched and moaned about the racket, and got them shut down.

They may not have been zoned but both Lakeside and Darlington Park were built away from residential areas.

Its mainly bored old bastards with too much time on their hands, they complain and to make them stop the council does what they want. If people kick up a fuss, then more will, people are like sheep.
Take my grandma, she moved in next to Pines Kart Club in the adelaide hills and what did she complain about, the noise!
She's was on a committee to shut down the track, and it happened, it pissed a lot of people, but we were a minority.

What we need is politicians who are motorsport enthusiasts....
and also a public base who are enthusiasts also. It is virtually the national sport in Brazil and Finland and it would be abhorrant for a track to be closed down in these countries. So what to do....what can we do to lift the public image of motorsport.
Mark Webber is doing a great job in F1 (needs more wins though).... success on the world stage certainly lifted any sport in Australia which we were consistantly competitive .
This takes lots of money and support...of which is being taken away.
you will always get the whingers...Wakefield Park is in the middle of nowhere and still has packs of farmer joe whingers whinging about the noise. Greenies in Homebush whinged about some stoopid green frog and we lost a LeMans race.
So...
a) motorsport loving politicians
b) kick ass in F1 etc etc
c) outnumber the whingers at the meetings

Im sure there are d) e) and f) I just cant think of them.
