Any one ever tested or found refernce to the drag coefficient of 1200's

I am more interested to know why you want this information. If you do find the numbers somewhere then you have the problem of applying them to your car. If your car is modified with spoilers front and rear, lowered ride heights,track widths etc, the drag coefficients are going to be different anyway.
Sounds like you are about to embark on a huge research & developement program

Lots of info is available on the web but in short it is defined as:
A dimensionless value that allows the comparison of drag incurred by different sized and different shaped bodies. Drag (in this case) being the friction caused by the air passing over a moving body, in other words it relates to the amount of effort required to push a given shape (1200 in this case) through the air.

Getting away from the original question. (But still kinda on topic) A real low buck way to guage a vehicle's areodynamics, (or to see how effective mods are) is to tape many peices of wool or string to the body all over it. Then get a mate to drive it while you record it from another car. If the string is flowing horizontal, thats good. If the string is spinning around, then that means that that area of the body is creating drag. That info is probably more use to most of us than drag coeffeicent figures.

they had a red escort i think and taped little bits of white wool all over the bloody thing - looked like a big throw cushion.

then they did a white car a taped red wool all over it.

it was a good read - but imagine the looks of people...!

A serious 1200 racer mate of mine did a ton of testing around this many years back. He did a series of 'coast down' tests down the straight at pukekohe during private testing..
He had a decent stack data logger, and just started taping things up, fitting headlight covers, covering over gaps between panels, and stoping air from getting under the thing.
He'd go and run up to around 200k then stick the clutch in...
they'd repeat it three times, then take a look at the datalogger to see how long it took to drop 100k's...
This is effectively measuring your CD....

From an engineering perspective........
You'd be amazed at how much difference the drag co-efficent can make in terms of applied force, or in this case Quarter mile or lap times.
I once designed a billboard holder..... You know the type, an angled billboard on a single column.
For design purposes I used a worst case scenario for the wind loading ie/ Made the column rusty. The result was approx. 20 kN of extra force (Approx. 2 tonnes).
Imagine the difference this makes to your car at 200km/h - Which, incedentally is roughly the same design wind speed used for coastal (cyclone) areas in Qld.

I too would like to know if anyone has ever found any Cd numbers for our Datsuns. They are available for many cars HERE, but no 1200's, B210's or the like.

To answer the question as to "why" we want to know these numbers, it is to compare our cars to modern cars aerodynamically. I want to see how bad our cars are compared to current offerings.

I'm shooting for 70 mpg in an Economy Run event and competing against Toyota Prius', so I'd like to know how much of a disadvantage I'm starting off with.
