I've done 120mph, with plenty left. Thats actual speed too, not what a dodgy at best datsun speedo read.
It's hard to belive that movie is based on a real person. I saw a picture in the paper of the actual bike he rode. (Not the replica made for the movie) It actually looked even dodgier than the one in the film. He converted the sidevalve indian motor to OHV using the cylinder head off a BSA.

KIWI INGENUITY!!!!!!!!!!

Jeeze there is some great results here! my old A12 is sounding a bit rough now and has just started leaking badly from the rear main seal, good thing the A15 is almost ready to replace it, I worked out that if I was doing 5200rpm with the auto at 150kmph I should see about 245kmph at 8500rpm, not sure if i will ever try though!

Datsun Speedometers like most early Japanese cars and bikes are not real accurate.

By doing the math........... 89 MPH with stock A12. With slightly modded A12GX and on a downhill ultra fast part of Willow Springs Raceway 110 MPH. I know 1200's with the full race A12 will do about 135 MPH there....they have about 100 RWHP.

aerodynamics get real important at these speeds, the 1200, 210, etc weren't really streamlined, so lowered hatch backs with front dams probably have the best lines for speed.

someone do a frontal area calc and figure out how fast 100 RWHP should be at sealevel.
