Why are there so many 1200 work utes out there in comparison to the sporty 1200 coupe. Is it because there wasnt as many coupes made or is it no one wants part with there coupe. Im currently looking for a decent coupe but have very little to choose from, but there is absolutely dozens of utes for sale. The choices are of an abundance.

the ute was manufactured for many more years then the other styles of the 1200 from 71 to somewhere in the 80's while the others only had a few years

Does this mean that out of a coupe and ute if they were both the same standard the coupe should be worth more...

The utes have a real cult following and are worth more.

I'm fairly sure that the last ute's to come into Oz were the 85's. Yes there are a heap more utes around but they also seem to be worth just as much as all the other 1200's. I agree that the other models should be worth more but it doesnt seem to be that way. I dont really like the coupes shape but everytime I see a sedan going the other way I almost crash whatever I am driving because I love them so much, yet, I have a ute in the garage, and no plans, only dreams of a sedan. Maybe its just the Ozzy way to have a ute?

I like the utes and i agree it is the ozzy thing to have a ute. They are such a multipurpose machine.Ok you dont get a dirt bike in the back but a small ute that looks good will always have a following.I own a sedan because i have a family. I actually prefer the sedan shape over the coupe in the 1200 series but thats my own personal choice,i am sure a lot of people love the coupe.I think any version is good because they are so easy to work on.SAF was lucky they had the utes for so long because they would have still sold well here i think even though they were old designs.

To be fair, the datsun ute wouldnt have survived into the 90s due to increasing requirements with cleaner engines.

The change to unleaded wouldnt have mattered, but the progression to efi, cat convertors, plus tighter emission laws would have pushed the a series into the dark ages. Add to the fact that it is pushrod, and it just wouldnt keep up with modern cars.

Nissan would have had to stuff a micra engine or simialr into it, make it front wheel drive, and then redesign the whole car, eventually turning it into a ute version of the micra. Yeah that would have been cool, but it wouldnt compete with the likes of the hilus, navara, rodeo or courier, all of which are sub 20K for the povo 2wd versions.

Hec a brand new Nissan Bakkie is about 19K aussie last time I checked and thats before you import it, and its half the technology of evrything else.

A much as i would love to see a 2008 Nissan bakkie hit aussie shores, I hate it admit it, but it would really only suit the enthusist market. I havent seen a tradie but a Jumbuck yet.

For the record, I love my 1k and the a series that powers it.

The only reason i like coupes is because i grew up with one! If Dad had a sedan - i'd probably be a sedan man - same with the ute...

I personally think the coupes are the most "sporty" 1200.
