Bluebird is Nissan's C-classᵂ (compact) model family, which grew out of the original Datson of 1931. The Bluebird family includes the 210/310/410/510/610/810/910 model series — but not the 710 which was of the Violet family.

Overview

The Bluebird is of direct lineage to the original Datson (DAT Light Car) model Type 10 of 1931.

Datsun Light Car

The first Datsun to be called Bluebird was the 210 model series, apparently during mid-run.

Bluebirds often feature Independent rear suspension (IRS) starting with the 510 series. 510 wagons are a notable exception, although export 510 sedans may also may have a live axle.

Later 6-cylinder-equipped Bluebirds, starting with the G610 and the G810 — stretched models — may be considered D-classᵂ (mid-size) cars. At the same time the base 610 and 810 were shorter cars.

Datsun Bluebird 310 was a car similar in size to the B110, although being full-framed was heavier at 2000 pounds. The wheelbase of the B110 is 20mm longer.
