Looks like the 1200 will continue to sit without an engine for a while yet, because I bought a Bluebird (910) SII rally car today! There's a few things to be sorted out before I pick it up next week, but its a done deal. Its a brand new car, done only 1 event and was too good to pass up when the opportunity came along. It doesn't have anything particularly flash in the driveline or suspension at the moment, but its a well built car that just needs some bhp and shocks, basically. I have some pics, but can't find the camera's USB cord - must have left it at work, so I'll post one tomorrow.

I also bought a bunch of engine stuff off a mate of a mate... Z24 crank turned down to fit L20B block, 89.5mm solid skirt pistons, sonic tested block etc to make a 2.4l grunter...

Now I just have to find room for another couple of cars (the Bluey comes with a spare shell - amongst other things). Anyone want to buy a HR30 Skyline coupe to help me make room???

Sounds good. May i ask how much you paid for it? Should have a bit of grunt when you build the 2.4l for it. I can only begin to imagine the torque. Are you putting the 2.4 in and saying it it still a 2l or are you going to be honest. It looks like the dirt has caught you hey. Good luck with it. Also id much rather have a ding in the bluebird than the little 1200 coke can.

Cheers
PS. I thought you u must have strayed from datsun when I saw this in off-topic.

Its got a H190 rear end with one of those phantom grip things. My brief drive on tarmac wasn't enough to get a feel for how effective it was... but it definitely has some effect. I'll be doing a rallysprint at Murgon in a few weeks, so we'll see how it goes then.

The struts and diff are gusseted, it has a good cage by the same guy who did my 1200's cage, 6mm duralium sump gaurd, and the car is really well built. Also has the usual rallycar stuff like internal fuel and brake lines, hydraulic handbrake, and a mild L20 with twin 45s.

I got it for a pretty fair price. The guy who's selling it is building another rallycar and wanted a few bits and peices like seats, belt, extinguishers, and the terratrip, and I have most of that stuff myself anyway and can get the rest pretty cheap off some mates, so we were able to work out a bit of a deal that suited both of us - $4650 including 8 wheels, lots of spare panels and lights, a few gearboxes and there's even a few spare shells, which I don't really have room for...

very cool. A mate of mine has one of the old GroupA bluey rally cars in the back of the shed, replete with Z18 turbo, option2 box, R200LSD and all the attendant lag of nasty old groupA cams, turbos and injection setup!

It's a great car, a little exciting with the independant rear, but effective as hell nonetheless!

It's melted another exhaust valve, so has sat for the last 8 years or so... I must give him a kick...

I had a feeling that you would find it hard to race an A-series motor again. I imagine that once you have had the fun of driving the torque and power of the L-series you cant go back.
I guy I know down here in Sydney used to rally a Bluey aswell [Steve Blair], it was fitted with all the Nissan factory Works bits and pieces Z18T, R180 and Enkei's etc. I was sold some years ago for $10K. If I had the cash I would have jumped at it. It went very well but suffered from streching head bolts. ARP replacement items fixed that though.

ok I admit it - I'm an L series junkie... and I'm afraid I've fallen in with a bad crowd who all rally...
I guess the first step is admitting you have a problem!

Now I just gotta work out a way of getting some blue and white on there
another one of my weaknesses...
