Don't think you even need gloves at all for sprints - that's just CAMS Lvl 2 racing. Long Sleeves/Pants + Helmet and Extinguiser.....

littledarkone: in reply to your Q.

NBW (nickel Bronze Welded) Spacesframes are inherently very strong yes, and if cost is an issue in the manufacturing process then it is by far the best way. There is however one other welding process that, from a pure engineering point of view, is far superior to NBW. TIG welding. There, obviously cost is not an issue......

In short a list of welding techniques...from bad to best.
0: Manual Metal Arc (MMA), or ARC welding as we know it. This is BAD NEWS.
1: GAS welding (Oxi acetylene). Includes brazing.... better than the above, but that's about it.
2: MIG. Welding. Metal Inert Gas. very good and relatively cheap.
3:Nickel Bronze Welded: cheap and very easy to get a good repeatable weld. Bang for Buck, this one is top.
4:TIG (Tungsten inert Gas).... this is the way to go if cost is of no concern,

looked into this a couple weeks ago ... upto marque supersprints you dont need anything FIA approved, it has to met ADR's and from memory the date doesn't come into it. if you go to the next level tho FIA has a 4or5yr change over and ADR has a 2yr change over on seats and harnesses ?? someone with the current book'll no doubt pick me up if i'm wrong ??!!! biggest thing is if your running in that level that the gear you buy hasn't been sitting on the shelf for months otherwise you wont get the full time out of it

You dont need a medical for level two liscences. I didnt even need one to get my level three rally liscence. You just join a club and pay your money.

For level three, there are different kinds of tests you need to do for different disciplines like being observed in a motorkana and an online test or similar.

Good luck!

Hey Whitey,
a couple of things .....
You do not need any medical for your 2S to do supersprints. Fill in the form, pay your money and you're away (after joining a sporting car club). Clothing is ankle to wrist of cotton based fabrics ie not polyester or nylon - so you have less chance of 'shrink wrap'
My advice on the cage is to go 6 point from the word go. Fully weld is my only choice - bolt ins make me shudder It is almost impossible to add rear legs (PROPERLY) after completing the rest of the cage. Up to you on choice but if you have any hope of competing at a later stage then build the cage to save your life, not your money Good luck!
Cheers

Sean I had a Showroom Stock Miata that I raced and used as a daily driver so I understand.

Here's something to think about; put the full cage in but for the door bars run one horizontal sill bar (about 5 inches or so from the floor) then for the door bar run a diagonal from your shoulder down to the horizontal sill bar (joint would be about 5 inches higer than where the sill bar joins front hoop). This will make it easy to climb in and out but still offer some side intrusion protection. Then when the car becomes a designated racer you can add another horizontal bar to form the X in the door...............this will be a much better compromise than nothing at all

In the meantime have fun with your project.

Tom

PS if no one rides on the passenger side put all three door bars in right away.

So someone does an "off the shelf" cage for a KB10 ?

I was thinking a half cage for now for street and hillclimbs/sprints

Are you able to put a cage in yourself and get it CAMS approved? or do you need a CAMS approved constructor?

There are no rules saying you can't build one yourself but it has to be tested by an engineer and given the thumbs up
