Go a natural ca18 With fuel injection. It will be much more cost effective and it will give better economy.
Wiring up the harness isn't as complicated as it seems, once you had a good look.
Putting carbs on a fuel injected motor is going backwards and will cost more in time, money and effort than its worth.
Spending bulk dollars on an l series or a series will be a waste unless for some reason you cant live without a particular type of engine.
A mate has just put a sr20de into a early corrolla with custom pipes(4 into 1) and system and it sounds like an oldschool L series with webbers. Just goes a hell of a lot faster than all but the most expensively worked l series.
Personally i would chuck the ca18det at it.
No L or A series will give the same bang for buck. Anyone who reckons otherwise has never driven a ca turbo in a 1200 or 120y.

If you want to be really different I would be looking at the CG13 from a micra. the engine lighter than the A-series 1300cc, twin cam and has off the self go fast bits. the only obstacle is the transmission. not impossible though

I'd be interested to see a micra engine taken to full potential- they don't have much as standard, but then neither does the A12. I have seen a turbo micra that pulled 100FWkW, but nothing in N/A format.

sorry about the hijak.

I like the A15, but my biggest love/hate is the torque- mine is all down low, not much up top, which doesn't work well with the gear ratio's- if you change at 6500-7000 you are well past the torque peak in the next gear, so it makes for a dissappointing drive. IMO you want to cam them up so the torque peak is at around 5500.

EDIT:
oh yeah- no direct experience whatsoever in putting carbs on a modern engine, but if you want a real frankenstien, there are castings available for DCOE onto suzuki swift GTI's- as well as stroker kits (or possibly a block swap I cant remember offhand), and they also bolt up to the vitara 5 speed box.

Interesting points once again. I didn't take into account those bloody emmission laws. My sedan pictured has a 32\36 and 1 3\4 inch exhaust system but it's probly the condition of the engine that makes me feel like it has less power and torque than what it should for the mods.

Get an S2000 frontcut..

If it were the 2nd time around for me...even at $6000 for a front cut..it's good value.

If you want to keep it simple...GO EFI!!

Once u sort out the computer...adjusting mixtures is as easy as pressing a button on a keyboard.
You A/F ratios are dispalyed etc....

L18's also seem to have all torque down low...but this can probably??? be changed by changing the exhaust/cam/carbys.

My final thought. Most engine conversions require roughly the same amount of time to do...so do an engine conversion thats worthwhile.
