I had a crazy Datsun mate (Mad sciencest) who use to build A12 and A14's in his garage that would run and rev so hard, even a few on straight methanol too. He would turn up with lumpy noisy lowered 1200's that would last a few days or sometimes a few weeks before the piston melted or a rod through the sump. but when they were going he use to dissapoint alot of other cars. He was crazy but his datsuns all were animals.
This guy served time for driving offences as you can imagine.

i've owned a datsun since i got my license ... started with a 120y coupe. A mate that rallied PRC in a 1600 got me onto an weber and extractors real cheap and it all started from there !!!! brakes ... suspension ... stereo ...
that got written off after a couple years, got rear ended and never saw a cent for it
i was carless for a while as i saved for a new datto ... i came across a 1000 2door for $1000 with a GX motor and an option 1 5spd complete with a spare deluxe shell. this was the first one to get the real mod treatment !! A14, gx head, twin 40mm dellortos, disc brake front conversion, suspension, insides ... the works !!! all done by an old skool Datto legend, Gordon Dobie at the Datsun Performance Centre in Melbourne ... but it still looked like a bucket !!!
in about '94 it got me to noosa and back from melbourne on $280odd for a 5 week surfari ... it was awesome !!
i got distarcted by 4x4ing for a little while but still had the 1K for city driving. i eventually/regretably sold it, and all the spares, for a meesly sum ...

i was datto'less for about 6mnths then bought an autoX 1200 sedan with a friend to start dirt track stuff ... i ended up learning to weld on it, got it looking not too bad then came across the sedan i have now. i bought the Kalahari Tan 1200 sedan from a decease estate for $1200 with all the orig papers in complete granny spec !!!
the want to go faster soon kicked in and i met Feral Errol !!!! Gordon had pretty much closed up the Datsun Performance Centerand had moved on to pursue his other talent ... jazz/blues music.
i then got onto Datsun1200.com !! from there its all history that can be found here ... somewhere !!
the autoX car donated alot of it's running gear and suspension to start with then alot of that was upgraded and replaced and my sedan is at where it is now ... and about to go thru another stage of brake upgrading in the next couple weeks ...

i dont think it'll ever stop while i have it and this sites running !! and i plan on having it for a looooong while yet !!

gotta keep them rolling

When I found my 1200 I was looking for a rwd lightwight car I could stick a big(?) v8 into. It was to be a project for my son and I.
I'm a bike guy and I wanted to keep my kid off the back of my FZR1000. So we started looking for a small car. I found this add for a 71 Datsun 110, had no idea what that was, so I came to this site to check it out.
I'd never seen one before, or didn't remember it anyway. Thought it was a great looking car for 650$, I paied 500$. It was running 20mins after I got it home, it had sat for about 6yrs.
The guy bought it new, gave it to his kid and his boy died, I didn't ask how. He was glad to hear I was going to cut it up and make a hotrod. Just something for me and my kid to ride around in. This car had been in his famliy sence 71, he had tears in his eyes when it was hauled away.
I had no idea what a deal I got. I had to go back and get all the spairs, mostly extra wheels, 4 sets. Half a truck load of parts.
I also didn't know just how rare these things are around hear. As far as I know, it's the only one in the Everett Wa area.
I just love the little beater. I've got it running realy good and drive it every day.
My son thinks it's a real classic and stands around telling everyone what's going to happen to it. He's very sharp when it comes to all the stuff I've built. He's 8yrs old and can't wait till it's done, me either for that matter!
I did have a 81 210 for awhile, best car ever in the snow!
Remember one time driving from Everett to Tacoma ( about 60 miles) from Boeing, the throttle stuck wide open, I must have drove 35 or 40 miles before I pulled off the side of I 5 and fixed it. I laughed the whole time, cuz the car would only do about 75 topped out on flat ground!

I bought a 1986 1200 ute of my boss about three years ago when I got my license.
About 5 months ago now I got rearended and the awsome little ute got rit'n off.
and when it came time to replace it I found a 1973 4 door sedan that had most the things I wonted to do to the ute allready.
so I rang the guy ASAP and he drove it round to my house, and I put a down payment on it coz he had others interested in it.
then he got it road worthy, I gave him the rest of the money.
and the rest is as they say history..

I first became interested is when I was passenger in my mate's XY Falcon - A very tough car that I thought was the duck's guts!
We pulled up at a set of lights and a little Datsun 1200 ute pulled up beside.
Both Drivers smirked at each other - lights changed and we were off!
Big stall, good launch and a shift to second saw us drifting sideways
...Next thing, this tiny little Datto came skating past us trying his best to keep the thing in his own lane!
We had the big Falcon Valve bouncing and the pint sized ute was off into the distance.

I bought a Datto sedan 2 weeks later

I later had
1 x 1600 with L20b, webbers etc
1 x 1200 stock sedan 75,000 miles
1 x 1600 imaculate daily driver
1 x 1200 351 clevland V8 with C4 auto
1 x Bluebird TRX 1 owner imaculate ( items still in plastic! (Is that allowed to be counted)
1 x 1200 ute Ca18det (current) in the build

my first car, 1200 wagon, test drove it and fell in love. Obviously the car for me from the start.
What more can i say, 1200's are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me (besides surfing).

Almost bought a bay window kombi

I had a Valiant Cherger I was doing up to be my first car, but it wasn't ready to drive when I got my license [in fact I only finished the resto at the end of last year, 6 years on...] but a mate said hs boss had this datsun 1600 out the back I could have for $50 with RWC. Apparently some old lady had owned it since new but got too old to drive and gave it to the mechanic who had serviced it. So I bought it sight unseen, and when I went to pick it up, I became the proud owner of my 1200 wagon, which I still have !!
