All the A12s I've seen (in NZ) have heart shaped combustion chambers?

The only A series head I've seen with anything else (almost 'hemi' like I think) was an A14 oval port but not common here (generally oval port / Heart combustion chamber.)

I have just purchased a head . Can anyone shed some light on what type it is?

Port size 39.5 x 30
Valves 38 in, 33 ex

It has no id other than nissan datsun embossed across the top near the rocker posts.
It has an ali plug in the side. The small water galleries on the manifold face have been blocked with grub screws.
I have read through Wiki but I'm still struggling.
Head from sydney, original work done by Ron Goodman.
Chambers cc at 24.8.

That, undoubtedly, is a genuine Ron Goodman head. Probably he fitted larger valves to a GX head.

There was a Roy Goodman in Sydney for a long time, he's know located on the NSW far north coast, so you might be able to find him.He did a lot of work on minis, but would work on other motors too. More than likely it's one of his.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

the decomp head is soft as butter
look at the head bolt holes at the top
worth about $1 per kg

When an alloy casting is fresh it has a certain hardness that you can test. After a while it looses it's hardness mainly due to being overheated too many times and as such becomes soft. It renders a cylinder head useless. The worst pitfall of buying a used alloy cyl head.

I once bought an alloy Yella Terra cyl head for a holden 6 for $$500. I was excited as. Turned out to be soft as as worth abeut $50 in scrap!

not entiarly sure about alloy but would emagin a heat treatment company could re harden allthough it would no dout need to be remachined but thats no dificult.

Feral mentioned this process donkeys ago. Something like you must heat the head to near it's melting point, for ages, then allow it to cool slowly. (I think) I think he said it's quite costly, and only works sometimes. Only worth doing to a really trick race head.
