A15 has muuchh more guts then the A12. Id go with that with an exhaust and a decent inlet. Lots of fun to be had. Give the ol a series some credit man. Under a grand for some real good fun

i was under the impression that the new laws said something about the car having to be stock...so i'd probably look into that first if your worried about being pulled over for driving a car your not allowed to, not that cops would think an a15 with a bit of work dont to it isnt supposed to be in there

if your planning on putting a ca18det in later, and really feel the need for more power now then i dont see why you couldnt put a CA18de in there for the time being if your allowed to drive the car like that.
then when you want the turbo it wont be that much more work to make it happen as you will already have the mounts, gearbox, fuel system, cooling and wireing done

id be against the NA ca18det idea as it wont really be that good to drive due to the low compression, and CA18de's only set you back about $150 anyway(cheaper than most stock A15s). so you could thrash one of them while you build a decent DET to replace it

hey
an A15, is a simple upgrade, dozent take alot of time, set of twin webbers, extractors and a cam and it will go sweet !
wait a couple years n then go with the CA18DET, or a SR20DET...
enjoy

gday buddy.
i know where you are coming from as i am still only 19. i had my first taste of the datto bug and i drove around in a 1200 ute with a semi hotted up engine(slightly larger cam extractors and a webber carby) and that thing flew ey. it is also cheeper on fuel than the bigger engines. as your what still only on your ls i wouldnt suggest getting a bigger engine just yet ey unless it is an a15 or 14 ey. do what i did and when ur off ur ps buy a car that you can handle the power of. see if your mates will let you drive thiers or what ever so you can see what power and engine you want. the guys that i brought my car off reckon it is easier and cheaper to get more power out of an sr20det than a ca18det. but yeah if you need a hand with anything we are all here and willing to help noone is going to abuse you for trying something out ey. it is all about experimentation ey.

have a good 1
good luck
joel

if you have to keep it "stock" then a set of SU's and a GX exhaust manifold on an a14 should be alright. No-one but a datto enthusiast would be able to tell the difference.

yeh gx motor or mock up motor such as the one ianey mentioned would be very good in a ute as i can tell you first hand they go very well
my wagon on the dirt hangs mad double legger fishy's down my driveway in 1st an second to if you snap it
and it does 95 mph quite easily and did i mention this is a 30 something yr old motor that i suspect hasnt had a rebuild as yet
