The fact you're asking makes me think your ute is like an 80-85 isn't it? that's getting borderline

It will depend upon which state you are in. Different states have different standards for blueslips, but by the sounds of things you are in NSW. It goes off the year of manufacture of the engine and not the vehicle itself. My 1200 coupe just passed it bluelsip last week and it needed 1, but thats because i had a CA18 inside it.

Google is your friend mate. :)

so a 1979 datsun 1200 in nsw wont need one, but depending on the age of the engine i will then? so how will i find the age of my engine as im not using any datsun engines and but stayed under the 15% engine swap increase? my other mates dont use cats on there engines that are the same as mine so i should follow what they do?

If u stayed under the increase then you are fine legally. Basically u need to know what year car was when your engine was removed. Usually its marked on the engine itself but if its a rotary then im not sure... Unfamiliar with rotary specifics im sorry. A good indication is whether or not the donor vehicle had one. If it did, chances are its madatory.

Its the logical thing that makes sense, and we know how the Gov. love to be logical :D loL!

86 was the first cat cars in Oz
But depends on the engine
If the engines out of an 86 or later car its gotta have a cat

US cars are different
My 76 Cad has a cat.... but it won't when I'm finished with it

You say you stayed under 15% ?

It's a rotary, they are effectively 2 stroke and for the purposes of NSW-RTA and NCOP, such replacement enginess a 12a == 2.4L and a 13b == 2.6L.

NCOP:

RTA:

A cat converter filters out 90% of the nasty crap and almost no restriction (using a 3inch one), or for a rotary a 4 inch one. I got one to keep the tire kicking police out of my hair. Most of the cops can only identify a missing cat converter.. so it's the first thing they look for when lining you up for defects.
