I didn't read the first page.. but Halogen Hella or Narva H4.. best money you can spend.
I run 100w/80w I think (which are way over legal), but when they are pointed properly, nobody cares.

i recently got some new headlights just from repco. they're just a standard 7" sealed beam just like most of the old aussie beasts. i think they were only like $12 each i think. for 50/60 watt ones.

I bought from this guy the other day, they've got the magnifier ring over the h4 to focus the light further. I liked the look of them over the crystal ones. They didn't want to fit snug cos those three tabs that locate in the cup are stepped with an extra 5mm of metal you cant chop off. My fix so far has been to use some neoprene chunks to keep the tension when you tighten the stainless retaining ring.

Threw some 65watters in and they are way brighter than my old lights but seemed to be narrower light spread, I haven't had a chance to fine tune it in the open as the car has been boxed in on the verandah.

I fitted H4 headlights and 100 watt spotlights on my 85 ute many years ago, With high beam on I had 460 watts of power, I could do xrays at night.
My first interstate drive to Melbourne and back was a breeze doing night driving
