Coming from a guy who crewed on a 1200 when the B210 were a killer car.You could turn one to 10,500 with the right parts but not for long, way to much stress on parts. We usually
came home with a air conditioned block.

Sounds like that it would be quite a fun engine to use and to hear the thing literally scream at you.
I have only heard good things about the A12 as it is so strong. I have a mate who has a A14 turbo and engine is not coping with it well, hesays that he will put the A14 head on a A12
and then put the turbo on it as the A12 is stronger. This all relates to the A12 reving to 10 grand coz if it con cope with turbo then it should relatively rev to about that much N/A. I
am pretty muchly convincet that a harder reving engine is more fun (thats what i think anyway) as a mate of mine has a pretty much stock a12 in his 120Y which he races , only mods are
extractors with a 2 inch system and a weber 32/36 DGAV and that still revs to 7 grand quite happily every time, he gives it so much shit and it still goes, doesn't even blow smoke!
Gotta love that so thats why agree with hard reving A12's (thats my opinion anyway) Its up to you and what you like!

I want power but I also want reliability with my A-15 I'm building up. My plans initially were to turbocharge it (10-15# boost max) with EFI, cause that easily adds the most power. But a
nicely built NA motor could also kick but and would probably turn out cheaper, but wouldn't be able to match the gas mileage (potential gas mileage anyway if I can stay off the gas). I think
I'll stick with the turbo idea, I want it to rev to 8,000 which isn't asking much, give at least 180hp, and run 13's. With what I have planned I don't think that will be hard to accomplish.
That one turbo 1200 sedan in the photos section doesn't have as much work to it as I plan to do, and he's putting out 180 hp and running high 13's in the quarter mile!! That is what I want,
but I'm looking at at least a year before being able to pursue that project.

Oh yeah, I took my coupe to the drags the other day...first time since I replaced my head. My previous best was like 17.5, and I improved quite a bit. First off I was running the wrong oil
in my SU's, and I only got two runs in. On top of that when I tried to warm up the tires, my clutch decided to slip instead of grip. In any case, on my first run I totally bogged it out at
the start, didn't rev it high enough before dropping the clutch, and ran 17.7, I knew I could go a lot faster. On the second and last run, I revved it up too high and smoked the tires
through all of 1st gear and ran a best of 17.0 So whenever I get a chance to go again I think it will be no problem busting into the 16's. The mods I have done is rebuilt/balanced A-15
(stock rotating assembly and compression), street cam, dual SU's, headers w/2.25" exhaust, and oversize Si valves, not too bad I think.

I wonder what other 1200's in the club are running in the quarter mile and what mods have been done?????

I am currently rebuilding an A12 which I got off one of our other members. It has A15 0.25 pistons in it, which is
quite an overbore.
She should really rev though, if I can get a big enough cam.

Interesting about the A12 vs the A14 and revability. I'm running my first stock A14 after many stock A12's. The A14 definitely revs harder and has a higher factory redline. I take it to
7000 no problem and it feels like it'd pull 8000 quite happily. From memory the A14 is a square bore and the A12 is not quite. If that's the case then the A14 would have the edge in the rev
stakes. Davos A14 engine (ex Andrew Denniss) is an insane revver. Anthony I'd be interested if swapping to an A12 is going to solve your turbo mates problem - the A14 is it's equal.

I also have a 1000 with an A14 not wanting the stock manifold to hinder those escaping gasses, I searched arround for a set of extractors to fit.
After trying many makes and brands to suit everything from a 1200 to a Sunny i gave up and went to a place that custom makes extractors.
for $250 I got a choice set of tuned length extractors with plenty of clearence, even under full lock with alot of engine twistage I've never had a problem. Might
be your best bet!.

Go the Mighty 1 ltr!!

Nah sorry not in Syd, I'm over here in perth where a joint called "HansOn Exhausts" did it.
But to find them all I did was check the phone book and did the ring arround to all places offering custom made exhausts. shouldnt be too hard to find a place over there I
found at least 5-6 places able to do it here.

ben

BTW - have you still got the allround drums on your 1ltr, Im reasearching a disc brake conversion for mine an Im looking for any info. Cheers!
