The motor I have is the 6 bolt main V8..And this year 2002 the IS300 comes with a 5 speed stick although I actually prefer the auto with E shift on the steering wheel.. also there is a Supercharger available from TRD yumm Now if I can just get the power, smooth ride and handeling in my 1200 I'll be happy. oh yea don't want to spend a lot of money either..Just bought a house--got a 2 year old Daughter and another due in 4 weeks so I plan to be broke for the next 18 to 30 years. hehe..

The japanese model altezza (which is effectively the IS200 body) came with an option of the Soarer twin turbo 2.5 litre engine (1JZ). These will be an excellent swap for anyone with the money, since our import regulations don't allow importation of "parallel" imports - imported cars being sold against brand new cars. Of course, there's a few that landed here before the IS200 went on sale....

Ten or so years ago, Bob Sharp racing out of Connecticut built the cars for Paul Newman and his teammate, I think Fitspatrick or something like that, had Nissan V8's from a Limosine that was for made Japan only. I am not sure of the details of those motors. Does anyone here know what they were? I have had dreams about them thousands of times for sure. LOL Mareo

These V8's came form mid-70's (not sure of the years) Nissan Presidential, their top-o-da line car. Bob Sharp Racing use one in Newman's IMSA 280ZX, might have been destroked and turboed or something. I can't remember if they later went back to the L-28et or stopped the race program. Eddie (Ratdat) would know. You awake yet Eddie? Eddie, I get HALF!! Daniel

Mareo, I appreciate the offer to get me an alloy Rovsmobile engine. However, as tens_and _twenties said, we are practically tripping over Fjord engines here in Texas. My original post was to see if 510 people had any horror stories about the swap. As for your 510 find, excellent score! Get that thing and enjoy it. There are those who would argue that since 510s have IRS they will outhandle (is that a word?) a 1200. I'm not going to touch that assertion. I'll just throw it out there to start some fights. B'bye.

I am not sure that the Bob Sharp cars were V8s. The later 300Zs (one driven by Kiwi Steve Millan) were powered by turbo V8s, though at the time were refered to as VG30 V6s as it would be difficult to sell the cars if people knew the performance was gained from 2 extra cylinders. There is one of these ex factory race motors for sale here in NZ at the moment. There is also an ex factory backed Trans Am 300ZX ( the earlier one) with a turboed V6, though it never really reached it's potential here, it was no match for an ex Jack Rousch Ford Merkur (Sierra). These cars had over 600HP and used to blow by my Datto like it was standing still but I still reckon I had the best place in the house to watch those awesome cars race! The Nissan 300ZX was ex Paul Newman and I still have a decal with it and Newman on it. There are plenty of Nissan Infinti 4 litre V8s being raced here many in stock cars which are regulated to using a 4 barrel carb but they can still produce an easy 450HP and they sound like only a strong V8 can,... bloody good!!! A Lexus V8 should fit in a 1600 ok, we have a 310 Sunny roaring around here with one in it and it's geat for blowing away WRXs (always on closed and controlled roads of course). In a recent Aussie Street Machine mag there was a Lexus motor with a 6/71 blower producing 950 HP with a promise of more to come they are the future in V8s.

There were two early nissan V8's. The first was fitted to the H150 President from 1965 and was the Y40. It was a 90 degree OHV V8 of 3988cc (243.4 ci). Horsepower was a measily 195hp at 5000 rpm and that's SAE not brake horsepower. The torque output is respectable at 237ft/lbs at 3200 rpm. This motor was joined by the Y44 of 4144cc. I've read a lot of different outputs for this engine varying from 200hp to 220hp. This one came with either a four barrel carb or Bosche fuel injection. Both engines are cast iron blocks with alloy heads. I have read somewhere about the old V8's being used by Bob Sharp before but can't remember where. I can only find mention of the V6 powered cars at the moment but I'll look it up. There was a Y series V8 and tranny for sale on ebay a while back. I think it was in the US and was about $350 when I saw it. I bet being such a short stroke motor you could build a real screamer out of one. Eddie

I am sure that the two Bob Sharp racers that Paul Newman and teammate drove were V8's. I think it was in 1990 or 1991 and they finished 1st and 2nd in points in SCCA GT1. Both drivers were over 60 years old at the time. I think Newman's teammate was named Fitzpatrick or Fitzsomething and there were many articles on them but I only saw a couple about the unobtanium motors that they were using. I have never found any articles on those motors at all. Mareo

I just haven't got anything covering GT1 from the 90's so I guess the only info I could find would be online anyway. I'd imaging the Y series motors would be well suited to curcuit and endurance racing. I've driven a 1980 President with an injected Y44 and was most impressed with how well it went. I visited a guy in Finland when I was there who had no less than four Presidents including an H150 model with the Y40 engine. I took a load of pictures. If anybody wants to know what an old Nissan V8 looks like I can email some pics. Eddie
