The most powerfull A series Ive seen would have to be John Taylors. Its rumoured to be close to 200hp!!! A15 bored to 1600cc quad 50mm throtle boddies, Motec, big cam roller rockers ect ect. This engine is full on and needs a rebuild after every couple of races.
Most reliable worked over A14's & A15's you could expect around the 160-170hp mark the more hp and revs normally means less reliable.

1200cs tta15... to give the goods for a 15.7sec 1/4 mile with the 1200 gearing etc, should be about 120hp at the wheels by my calculations (considering slipping the clutch and also its inconsistent mystry rev cut out points)
get it running 95% andshould be good for 130 to 150hp depending.
A 130kw at the engine car would do a similar time depending on gearing and weight, a stock commodore does this time and so would my old mazda familia prior to mods...... so datsun should do it ith 120hp at the wheels on perfectish run

maybe you should explain your calculations...you cant be calculating kg : Kw 15.7 is not fast as you point out a stock commo (v6 auto?) will do that, and thats 155Kw pulling 1600kg.
so a car that weighs less than 1/2 as much and has much shorter and closer gearing ratios would need less than 1/2 that power to run the same time, notwithstanding aerodynamics.

A15, minor porting, heap O' Compression, decent cam, stock carb in a 120Y with 3.9 diff, 16.1 @ 84mph

On the dyno I think I saw 74 odd HP.

The carb was the limiting factor.

I would have loved to throw in down the 1/4 with the 4.1 diff and twin SU's, really opened the topend up.

Lose a few kilo's in a 1200 and high 14's would not be unrealistic. . .

Oh yeah, I forgot; A12, TO2, blow thru weber. Runnig known cars on the street (shh), mid to low 15's. Could never get a full 1/4 in due to fuelling problems, turned out to be a dodgy wastegate actuator, was probablly copping ~20 pounds for a while. Blew the rings outta the thing!

Ive only got a stock A15 bottom end and GX type head with std valves with double springs and twin 40mm webers and 54/86 cam....I reckon about 125hp at the fly. But let me tell you, with a good perfroming chassis boy it was fun at the track. Id like to see what 175hp would be like...i reckon it would be awsome....yet alone Andy's CA18DEt @ 400hp far out.
