How many originals are left?

As a relative newcomer to this site, I'm impressed by the work people put into ther 1200's. Larger engines, custom bodywork and interiors, upgraded transmissions, turbo's and the list goes on. Some of these are truly works of art and my congratulations go to those who have built these. Only seldom do I read about original cars or utes.

I'm curious to know how many original and unmolested 1200's are out there as there can't be too many left.

Sorry for prattling on.

Well mine is original to a point, it is an 84 ute, it still has the original A12 engine with an original 87,000km's on it, original interior and paint work. I am the 2nd owner and I know the previous owner so it is all original.

The only parts that are no longer original are the front brakes (stanza disc's) and the wheels (because the originals don't fit over the stanza brakes). These changes were only done for safety reasons (my opinion) as I wasn't happy with the perfomance of the drum fronts.

I am pretty sure I still have the factory spare tyre.

I've got a 100% original white 1971 sedan, with only a few essential changes:
1. the radiator hoses and clamps
2. washer bottle bag from 80s 1200 Ute
3. new Battery

I think it's on it's 2nd set of tyres. Spare tire is original crossply.

There may be as many as six 1200s still in near new factory condition in Australia.

Cheers,
Chris

Not many are original. Nick Camplin's might be the closest (17k original miles if I recall correctly). There's also the pea green 4-dr sedan in NZ.

Mine is relatively original, except for the usual: battery is not original, tires are 12" but not original, seats have been re-upholstered with non-standard material. Engine is a replacement A12.

The only "modification" I have is electronic ignition from a 1980 B310. I'm satisfied with the stock disc brakes.

Come to South Africa.
99% of them are original used by the wifes to drop the kids at school and doing the daily shopping. (There are quite alot of them still on the roads here).

Mine was used like that.
My mom took me and my sister to school for more than 5 years and then I went to university.
I drove it only a bit then as I used more the motorcycle.
Then about 2 years ago and also inspiration of this website I begged my father that I want the Datsun.
He the gave it to me not very happy.
I then transformed it from a faded paint and dirty engine and small tyres car into a spotless clean 13 inch rims car.
I use it now for some weekend driving and car shows.

Everything is original except the engine that I sprayed the same as the car and 13 inch wheels.
Everything else is 100% original no mods done. The car was also resprayed the original yellow.

I must get off my bum and get some pics of the green sedan...it has a genuine 16,000km on it and is original except for repairs to a leaking/corroded radiator. It is a real time machine and still has the "new" car smell.

I didn't realise the car was already posted here. Itb is now owned by a Datto nut here in Wellington and is kept company by 3 1600 SSS's, a 1200 coupe and ute...oh and I understand he has just found an original 1200 SSS !!!

Fantastic to see these originals are still around. It must be a challenge to keep them in this condition. Well done guys.
