As some of you know a good friend of mine has spent the last couple of years plugging away at a SR20DET Datsun 1200 ute conversion. Well its finally finished!

After getting it tuned last week it pulled out just over 160rwkw on a conservative 8 psi. On Monday we took the ute out to Wakefield for some testing before final engineering sign off and registration. We have involved an engineer the whole way through the conversion so shouldn't have any dramas.

When we got it on the track we expected at least a couple of problems but it ran fantastic, had great turn in and of course it hammers. Unbelievable for a ute that went for its first drive after some extensive modifications. Once the rear has been raised a little the boost will be turned up to around 14psi for some fun.

Its been a long stint with ####loads of problems including the wrong
offset on the wheels that took 6 months to come from England (reorder), bastards breaking in and stealing gauges & stereo, respraying the whole ute after the original spray job was about as straight as Bob Downe, and numberous other things.

Just about all mods to the car were completed by the owner and mates (Wilko is king).

Here is some pics from Monday (love the toilet pic)...

Looks great! and I don't normally like these modern colours on old cars, but this really looks good. Looove the wheels. They were definitely worth waiting for - really set off the car. Don't like the rear leaves though - they look downright scary.

The rear end was a little bouncy and definately too low. They will be raised during the week but the bonus was that we had no tramping. The custom made panhard bar also works a treat. Once it's raised the DJ01s will go back on.

Unfortunately didn't get some times but they wouldnt have been too shabby, it was the owners first track experience as well. We did get an experienced campaigner in and he had it going pretty well.

As for the wheels, they are Compomotive's from England, took nearly a year to come in (after the wrong offset were brought in after the first six months!).

good job on the ute looks very tidy! nice power figure!
looks as if u have just turned the leafs upside down?? the ride height looks fat as, about same height as mine,

i just got thicker diff mounts welded on so it acted like blocks, with caltracks so NO tramp under any condition,

u should make a adjustable rear end bracket for the leafs with 3 or 4 settings so if u wanna jack it up or lower it for shows u can without 2 much hastle, ect

Great lookin` ute !!
The Commodore side indicators look very good as do the side mirrors.
Do tell where you obtained the side view mirrors!!!!!! I`m very interested in getting some for my ute.
Once again great job!

Looks great! Those wheels remind me of the old Group A touring car wheels. Very tough. Top work mate.
