Thats Toby's ute. He packed a sad after I cleaned up a thread with some uneccesary remarks in it, and hasn't posted since. His ute was one of the lendich construction fleet. (A brother of cheater5's ute)

Widening steelies is all the rage here atm. I'm even thinking I might do the steelies on my pb310 just to aid resale value.

Out of curiousity D, you're not registered there as Datso are you?

widening steelies has been done since time immemorial... just not so common these days, although as Bart said it might be making a comeback. we have done them in the past for customers but with alloy wheels being so cheap now it's not that common to widen wheels. is it not done in Australia?

It's a time-honored hot rod tradition here in america. But not very common nowadays. That means it is kind of expensive.

I just want some 5" wide steel twelvies.

2 questions, if i do this, is it legal, and secondly, how easy is it to cut and weld the steelies together (to cut/weld them true)?

I suspect the wheels are jigged for welding and rolled in a machine to sort out final balance

I've got a lathe, I've got a welder, and I'm a boilermaker.

But the chucks our lathe has weigh a fkn ton (12inch dia 3-jaw, and 18in dia 4-jaw, lathe is 8ft bed and 2ft throw, just a wee baby LOL) so not too keen on swapping the 3-jaw with the 4-jaw, don't have a magnet stand and dial gauge to check them, plus i'm not all that confident with the welder doing fiddly work like this (more used to hardfacing and welding up 12mm-32mm plate).

Anyone know a place in QLD who does them?

Bart yes thats me Datso couldnt use D not enough characters.
Shame about that owner of that thread. Would have like to see
how the ga16de goes as Peter PJZ has the big block brother qc18de
ready to tackle the track, its supposed to be a torque monster
and weighs similar to the a15 fully dressed.

No need for a lathe he guy did it with an angle grinder as far
as he says and just need a good mig welder and welding experience
You weld in small sections for some cooling time & keep rotating.

Edit; I think he used a bench angle grinder with big lever

A few places still can do it in Sydney... Because its not that common anymore, it seems to attract a higher price these days.
