Battery relocation means moving the battery from it's normal place. Typically this is done to make room for engine swaps, or to move it to the back to change the weight distribution.

Overview

http://www.summitracing.com/search/Brand/Summit-Racing/Product-Line/Summit-Racing-Battery-Relocation-Kits

Run the POS cable to the starter, and the NEG cable to the engine block, as in standard 1200 Wiring.

Battery -> Cable -> isolator (disconnect) -> cable -> starter post. Accessories can be run off starter post via a Fusible Link (In stock from the Fusible Link is connected to the POS cable terminal). Do not use a Circuit Breaker.

Battery Box

If relocated to the passenger compartment (including the trunk) the battery should be fitted in a sealed box that vents outside.

You can move the normal lead-acid battery to the back, or an AGM lead-acid battery. Be sure to vent the battery box to the outside as even AGM can create a little hydrogen gas.

Battery Size

You can relocate any battery, either the stock size, or a mini-size battery.

See main article: Battery

Cables

  • Use large-gauge battery cables
  • Use a negative cable (do not rely on chassis ground)
  • The stock chassis earth/ground may be retained. Run a 12-gauge wire from POS cable to the unibody (see Wiring).

Connect the negative cable directly to the engine block (as in standard Battery cable mounting).

Disconnect Switch

Basic Rally cars dont need external cut-off until advanced levels.

Consider a racing-style battery isolator (disconnect switch) at the rear exterior of the vehicle:

Or a more convenient (non-racing) position for a disconnect switch:

Routing

Internal routing though passenger compartment keeps them away from damage from underneath. But it must be properly grommeted to prevente chafing and to seal the passenger compartment. Route them under the carpet.

Or run the cables completely under the vehicle, along the inner side of the chassis rail for example.

Optional step makes the engine compartment look cleaner and less cluttered.
