Im sorry if it has been discussed before, but has anyone ever put a hayabusa engine into a datto?

The obvious problem would be that bikes have a built in gearbox and clutch and that they are chain driven. I know that harley trikes are drivesharft driven to a diff, and there is a mob in newcastle that does it. Perhaps you could not use the bikes clutch and gearbox, but attach the shaft strait to the datto clutch/gearbox.

The advantages are obvious. The engine would weigh less than an A series, and take up much less space in the engine bay. They produce 175 horsepower stock, and 141 Nm. The bikes weigh 400kg and a datto 650ish, with the benefit of alot more traction. Then there is the possibility of modifying the engine. People turbocharge these engines to make 220hp.

as a dedicated racecar why not put the engine in the back ?? ad duct in air for cooling. Wont need to run such a long tail shaft and the likes.
There is a place in england ?? that is putting bike engines into a mini's boot and running them rear wheel drive.
Also spoke to a guy the other day that does sprint car engines and puts bike engines into them now instead of the luvly old Aseries with good results.

The little Hayabusa might be enough for Minis, but a Datsun 1200 would want the Hayabusa V8.

They put them in Minis with a 0-60mph tme of 2.85 secs!!!
The turbo Busa's can put out 0ver 650bhp!!!

Now the kits are over 14k australian plus the engine plus the car.
Youd be looking at 30k for a basic install.
But having said that the car would be quite nice to drive.

I would rather see you build a spaceframe and have the engine installed in that.

what about the aussie racing cars they run a fj1200 yamaha motor and run a sequential 5 spped box run to a live axle rear end

I think that is one heavy 'busa..... try 215kg.

Possibly worthwhile as a trackday special, mid mounted with the whole car lightened and gearing to keep it on the boil...... but I reckon it is too good a piece of gear to put in a 1200 much better suited to a purpose built open wheel or sportscar design with 400kg to lug about unstead of 700.
