A rebuilt A12 with all the goodies would me my choice, don't get me wrong I've got a ca18det n pumps all the way to redline all day, but you start to feel very small an very unsafe after 220hp if something happened, and once that turbo bug bites your always chasing figures and becomes a money pit

But if I had endless cash and cheap local parts, RB25det would be way to go!

CA18 as well to a 1200 but make sure even if you plan on using it normally aspirated base it on the Turbo CA18 as it is a much stronger bottom end,Hooking up the Tacho is a pain to these Coil on Plug Engines and something to be very carefull about,Best to adapt all the CA system to the car rather than just try to wire it into 1200 wiring harness.
When measuring for a tacho hookup I found the Ignition Module for the CA engines has 230 Volts and 10 Amps on the low tension side of the ignition circuit,That is the same s playing with a 240 Volt powerpoint in your home,Beware!!!.

How is the turbo bottom end much stronger than the NA one? they use the same crank and rods as the turbo engine. the only real difference is the turbo ones have lower compression pistons and oil squirters to cool the underside of the piston.
Also how is it a pain to hook up the tacho? there is a tacho output from the ecu. It wont work with the standard tacho as it is an induction type and is annoying to hook up to anything. but for any normal tachos you just plug them straight into the tacho output signal wire and they work. Far easier than trying to adapt the whole "CA system" to the car, which i assume you would be talking about the whole s13 wiring loom and instruments

ive done a couple of CA conversions now and modifying the CA wiring harness to make it more universal then connecting the 6 or so wires that are needed from the 1200 loom is by far the easiest way of getting the job done

I am about to start building a A12, I have a few goodies lined up to build it with.
But it makes me laugh to myself when I think that even with the performance mods my wife's 1.6 rusted out corolla will probably still be quicker.
But hopefully the A12 will sound nice.

I eventually plan to use a 7inch 7800 rpm 80 hp electric using a lithium battery pack mated up to my L series dogleg 5 speed, the reason only a small electric and not a quarter mile eating electric missile is because I plan for to be functional, slightly more powerful than the existing, and with a fair amount of range,

But for the time being I'ld be happy running an a12, modded internally to race spec \with quad bike carbs, hopefully a SPRINTEX S5-150 supercharger and a solenoid controlled exhaust system but still looking granny spec (ish) with an orig interior and outside, although the simmons may give it away a bit.

If you go a bit bigger on the motor you can probably delete the gearbox and have direct drive. It might compare favourably in terms of weight.

One way to look at it is to pick an electric motor with the same stall torque as the A12 multiplied by 1st gear ratio, i.e. about 350Nm. The advantage is that you'll have this torque all the way up to design speed. Or you can choose something in between an have second gear torque the whole way. A project I wish I had time for Maybe in retirement...

Love the electric hub motors used by e-mini, 4 each wheel for 4wd.
Id be happy with 2 x 8 inch in parallel and serial like white zombie
sitting in the gearbox tunnel with small prop shaft to the diff.

I toyed with the idea of putting B2345T3 out of a '98' Volvo V70 T5 but figured a Bridgeport 12A would be alot simpler, lighter and louder. And easier to register too.

12A too big for engineering. Go with the 10A.
