Adorning the extreme ends of the Datsun 1200 are chrome bumpers. Although the front bumper is shared by all models, the rear bumper differs between Coupe, Sedan, Van and Sunny Truck. The revised front bumpers have bolt holes for USA and Japan license plates (two sets of holes), while early ones are specific.

Contents

Front

The front bumper of a 1200 is a fairly straight chrome bar and has two small notches on the bottom for the front turn-signal lights:

All 1200 models used the same front bumper, including Truck through March 1978

  • The front bumper is in three pieces, although it is sold factory assembled as one piece.
    • Two long front sections (left and right) that curve and the end to wrap around the side just a little
    • a shallow degree binding piece (the front bumper is a slight V)

B120

STD utes used a flat-silver painted bumper (62651-G1001). DX utes used a chrome bumper (62651-H1001).

From April 1978, Sunny Truck used a rubber-ended bumper:

Rear

Rear bumpers differ by 1200 model, and are distinguished by the license plate lighting provision. PB110 used the same rear bumpers as regular B110.

  • Sedan rear bumper has a small light in the center facing up to illuminate the license plate

  • Coupe bumper has a notch for the license plate:

  • Wagon is smooth with no notch and no light:

  • Ute has no rear bumper
  • North America 1200 had rubber overriders

  • The regular rear bumper is in three pieces:
    • Long center section that varies between Sedan, Coupe and Wagon
    • Two end caps, left and right, that wrap around the side a little bit
21430.jpg It is sold as three pieces

1973 USA Bumpers

For 1973, USA models got redesigned bumper-to-body brackets to meet FMVSS No. 215 (2.5 mph bumpers). They also used larger bumper pads. The chrome parts look similar but are different.

License Plate Lighting

Also see: Rear License Plate Lamp

For North America in order to meet new FMVSS regulations, 1973 Sedan rear bumper was modified to have a brighter license plate lamp (the coupe with its dual lamps was already bright enough). The lighting moved from the bumper to near the plate.

The resulting bumper was similar to a wagon bumper but came with large rubber overriders and extra holes to bolt to the larger 1973 stays.

South Africa

1200s in South Africa, at least from 1973, were factory-fitted with Datsun 510 bumpers. These have a bit longer overbend, but are the same width.

Overriders

JDM models came without rubber overriders, but all North American models had rear overriders front and rear.
