Datsun 1200s were sold and even locally produced in South Africa. Until 1975, 4-door sedans and GX Coupes were sold. In 1980, the Datsun 1200 pickup became the Datsun 1400 pickup, and exclusive Nissan-Datsun South Africa offering.

Bakkie
Nissan-Datsun South Africa originally imported B120s into South Africa. In 1976 production started in the Roslyn factory and these were marketed as "120Y" bakkies after the current 120Y (B210) sedans. In 1980 it changed to the B140 "1400" bakkie. In 1987 the South Africa-specific B140 model with raised roof was developed and produced to the end of 2007.

GX
Datsun 1200 GX Coupes and Sedans were sold in South Africa. A Coupe can be briefly seen in the 1980 movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. The GX sedans were common in South Africa, and a surprising amount of them can still be seen driving around.
South Africa GXs are unique in these respects:
- 'Datsun' rear and side emblems (Japan Datsun 1200 GX has 'Sunny' badges)
- Facelift (late) grille, with:
- early-style back panel treatment
- early Export round 'D' grille badge
- Deluxe-style mirrors
- Made through 1975
- Unique Hubcaps
- Datsun 510 rear bumper
- Datsun 510 front bumper on some
- DX interior upholstery
- non-Japan seats
- Orange rocker cover and air cleaner (?)
- Coupe has no C-pillar badge, but has a fender/wing/gaurd badge
DX
South Africa also sold DX sedans which also used the facelift grille, but had rectangular gauges.

B210
South Africa sold B210 models, including 120Y, 140Y, 160Y, 140Z and 160Z.
