Datsun 1200s were sold and even locally produced in South Africa. Until 1975, 4-door sedans and GX Coupes were sold. In 1980, the Datsun 1200 pickup became the Datsun 1400 pickup, and exclusive Nissan-Datsun South Africa offering.

B140 Bakkie Nissan-Datsun South Africa

Bakkie

Nissan-Datsun South Africa originally imported B120s into South Africa. In 1976 production started in the Roslyn factory and these were marketed as "120Y" bakkies after the current 120Y (B210) sedans. In 1980 it changed to the B140 "1400" bakkie. In 1987 the South Africa-specific B140 model with raised roof was developed and produced to the end of 2007.

GX Sedans

Datsun 1200 GX Coupes and Sedans were sold in South Africa. A Coupe can be briefly seen in the 1980 movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. The GX sedans were common in South Africa, and a surprising amount of them can still be seen driving around.

South Africa GXs are different in these respects:

• 'Datsun' rear and side emblems (Japan Datsun 1200 GX has 'Sunny' badges)

  

• Facelift (late) grille, but early-style back panel treatment
• Deluxe-style mirrors
